PLANNER I

(This is an Exempt position under FLSA)

Starting Salary: $49,945 annually Maximum Salary: $68,537 annually

Closing Date: When a sufficient number of Method of Selection: Applicants will be

REQUIREMENTS: A valid driver's license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E or

higher), Bachelor’s degree in City, Regional or Urban Planning, Urban Studies,

Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Architecture History, Historic

Preservation, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Art History or a related

field and one year of professional City, Regional or Urban planning experience

OR Equivalent combination of training and experience beyond a Bachelor’s

degree in a related field.

DOCUMENTATION: APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT PROOF OF EDUCATION IN THE FORM OF

TRANSCRIPTS THAT REFLECT ACADEMIC MAJOR AND DEGREE CONFERRED

UNLESS DEGREE REFLECTS ACADEMIC MAJOR ON ITS FACE. OFFICIAL

TRANSCRIPTS MAY BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO COMPLETION OF THE SELECTION

PROCESS. DRIVER’S LICENSE WILL BE CHECKED FOR VALIDITY. PRIOR TO

APPOINTMENT, CANDIDATES SELECTED FOR HIRE WILL BE REQUIRED TO

SUBMIT COPY OF A STATE OF FLORIDA DRIVER'S LICENSE TO THE

DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYEE RELATIONS.

VETERAN PREFERENCE: (If applicable), All DD-214 forms must be submitted with the application. In addition to the

form DD-214, applicants who have been awarded combat campaign/expeditionary medals

that are not reflected on the Form DD-214 must submit supplemental documents from the

Department of Defense that demonstrate possession of a combat campaign/expeditionary

medal by the closing date. (The original will be copied and returned.) For disabled veteran’s

preference: A letter less than one (1) year old from the V.A. or Department of Defense which

includes the percentage of disability must be submitted in addition to the original DD-214.

Veteran’s preference is awarded in accordance with F.S.S. 295.

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES ATTENDANCE AT EVENING MEETINGS INCLUDING

PRESENTATIONS TO CITY BOARDS, NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS AND OTHER

AGENCIES AS NECESSARY.

DUTIES:
Work involves performance of difficult and complex City planning work under

minimal supervision and direction. Directs and assists in the development and

preparation of comprehensive landscape architectural plans, including site plans,

working drawings, construction details, specifications and bid documents.

Reviews and makes recommendations, as necessary on proposed landscape plans

for City permits.

Oversees the preparation of maps, reports and statistical compilations as a basis

for planning in a variety of functional and geographical areas. Reviews existing

zoning provisions and makes recommendations for the revision of zoning

ordinances to conform with individual and City characteristics and needs.

Performs extensive research and prepares comprehensive reports on City

planning and related subjects. Compiles related and supporting data for use by

the Planning Board, the City Manager and other interested agencies.

Assists in the preparation of reports on various phases of the planning program,

including population, social and economic characteristics, commercial and

industrial trends, housing, tourism, and building types and used, public

improvements and facilities and park, recreational and cultural facilities.

Performs related work as required.
