DESCRIPTION
Disabled Veteran’s Outreach Program (or DVOP) - This is professional position facilitating workforce service for veterans/other eligible and employers.
Coordinates and develops jobs/job training opportunities for veterans through planned contact with employers with an emphasis on veterans with barriers to employment, i.e., Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment veterans.
Provides specialized workforce services for veterans, especially veterans with barriers to employment, i.e., job development services for veterans, refer veterans to employment/training opportunities, provide counseling/guidance, and assist veterans with other workforce services (resume assistance, labor market information, job search workshops, one-stop career center orientation, etc.).
Maintains and develops planned, productive contact with employers to develop jobs for veterans; also contacts community resources and local organizations, i.e., planned, productive outreach contacts to veterans’ and other community based organizations to locate target group veterans.
Performs planned, productive visits to training providers (community colleges, technical centers, apprenticeship programs, etc.), community based organizations, etc., and maintains up-to-date network guide for veterans. Also provides appropriate assistance to Regional Workforce Boards and grantees under federal and federally-funded training programs, i.e., Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Veterans’ Workforce Investment Program (VWIP), etc.
Coordinates and provides case management assistance to VR&E (Chapter 31) special disabled veterans and other veterans with barriers to employment.
Conducts Veterans’ Program training workshops and technical assistance for all one-stop career center staff.
Performs services to develop linkages with other agencies and service providers to promote maximum employment opportunities for veterans, especially veterans with barriers to employment.
Organizes and participates in promotion activities to promote services for veterans, i.e., job fairs, career days, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated customer service skills. Demonstrated computer skills, with experience using word processing, spreadsheet software, and web applications. Knowledge of local market information and resources are highly desired.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and 2 years of professional experience with recruiting/staffing and placement; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preference will be given first in the appointment to a qualified disabled veteran, then to qualified eligible veterans; if no such eligible veteran is available, then to qualified eligible persons. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Florida Workforce Professional Tier 1 Certification required within 90 days of appointment to this position.
