MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Police Chief reports to the City Manager through the First Assistant City Manager. The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD), with its highly successful neighborhood policing program, is exceptionally well respected and supported by the community. In 1995, voters approved and continue to support a ½ cent sales tax specifically dedicated to support crime control and prevention. FWPD employs 1539 sworn officers and 432 civilian employees and functions on a current budget of $207.4 million. FWPD has a capable and cohesive management team and capable employees and enjoys good employee relations, teamwork and morale throughout. FWPD has been using the Compstat management and accountability system for the past five years.

Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying. A typical qualifying background would be eight years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal police work including four years of management and supervisory experience (at a level no less than two ranks below the Police Chief) gained in a community with a population of at least 200,000 and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in police science, criminal justice, public administration or closely related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Strongly prefer experience with a police department serving a diverse community comparable to Fort Worth, experience in initiating and overseeing community policing and crime prevention programs and experience working with police unions. Must be a collaborative team-player with proven ability to maintain and increase rapport and trust within FWPD and between the FWPD and the community. Must be technically current and meet State law enforcement certification requirements
