PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IV

(This is a full time, exempt position under FLSA)

Starting Salary: $71,536 annually Maximum Salary: $119,867 annually

Closing Date: When a sufficient amount of Method of Selection: Applicants will be assessed

qualified applicants have applied on the basis of their training and experience as

shown on their application form.

REQUIREMENTS: A Valid Driver's License (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E). Bachelor’s degree from

a college or university accredited by the American Board of Engineering Technology

(ABET) with specialization in Engineering and eight (8) years of post license experience in

progressively responsible engineering work with four (4) years of experience supervising

large team(s) of professional engineers and technical personnel for large public works

construction projects. State of Florida Registration as a Professional Engineer.

DOCUMENTATION: Copy of State of Florida Driver’s License (Class E or higher), State of Florida

Professional Engineer license, and proof of education must be submitted with the

application in order to qualify. College transcripts must be submitted unless

degree reflects academic major on its face. Official transcripts may be required

prior to appointment. Applicants are encouraged to clearly detail their experience

on the application to avoid disqualification.

SPECIAL NOTE:
This position is considered an “Essential Position” for the purpose of Emergency

Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Miami emergencies

, as

determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.

NOTE #1: Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida at time of

application, and maintained throughout employment in this classification.

NOTE #2: IN ACCORDANCE WITH APM 2-02, APPLICANTS FOR CLASSIFIED POSITIONS WHO ARE

CITY OF MIAMI RESIDENTS AND NEW HIRES WILL RECEIVE PREFERENCE IN SELECTION

FROM INTERVIEW RANKING BANDS PROVIDED THAT 2 OF THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS

ARE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION FORM, AND AGAIN, AT TIME OF INTERVIEW: UTILITY

BILL DATED WITHIN 60 DAYS OF THE DATE OF SUBMISSION; FLORIDA DRIVER’S LICENSE

OR STATE-ISSUED ID; PROPERTY TAX STATEMENT; PROPERLY EXECUTED LEASE

AGREEMENT; HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION; MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION; W-2 (OR 1099)

TAX FORM; OR OFFICIAL SCHOOL RECORDS OR TRANSCRIPTS, DATED WITHIN 90 DAYS

OF THE DATE OF SUBMISSION. PREFERENCE FOR CITY RESIDENTS SHALL NOT

SUPERSEDE PREFERENCE AWARDED TO VETERANS PURSUANT TO F.S.S.295, OR

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO CITY EMPLOYEES WITHIN THE SAME RANKING BAND.

TOXICOLOGY:
PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEES SHALL SUBMIT TO A TOXICOLOGY SCREEN AT THEIR OWN

EXPENSE. THE COST IS $30.00, THOUGH SUBJECT TO CHANGE. IF THE RESULTS ARE

NEGATIVE, THE CITY WILL REIMBURSE APPLICANTS FOR COST OF THE SCREEN. IF THE

RESULTS ARE POSITIVE, THE APPLICANT WILL ASSUME THE COST INCLUDING THAT OF

ANY TEST CONFIRMATION.

DUTIES:
Directs the functions of a major engineering segment within the department; supervises

the work of a large team of professional engineers and technical personnel involved in a

variety of public works projects; makes recommendations on facilities, personnel and

funds needed to carry out programs related to the fulfillment of organizational objectives.

Reviews and approves plans and specifications developed for public works projects and

ensures that they are followed in the execution of projects. Handles a variety of public

contact situations involving complaints as well as making personal appearances to explain

and interpret City programs. Acts in a coordinative and liaison capacity with engineers

and officials of other organizations and companies. Administers appropriate City and

departmental policies and procedures as they apply to the supervision of subordinate

employees; formulates or assists in formulating departmental policies and work rules.

Performs other related work as required.
